Which is your favourite?
5 minutes with… Farah from Pieces by Farah!
Who has been to 
gifts recently and not fallen for the gorgeous Pieces by Farah? Hmmm?
Seriously, how totally gorgeous are those pieces!
And turns out, so is Farah!
We caught up with the beautiful Kuwait-based designer recently, to find out about the method behind the fabulousness!
suce: We looove Pieces by Farah! Can you tell us a bit about your process? What materials do you use?
Farah: Thank you! Well, the piece of fabric is mixed with our secret mixture that transforms the fabric in to a plastic like material which is then formed using moulds. These moulds are then pressed with our pressing machines and left to cure. This process will take almost 2-3 days where it needs to be dried, cooled and re-heated to make sure the shape is correct. When the perfect shape is reached we leave them for a couple of days to make sure that they are completely dry. They are then sent to be sanded and trimmed then painted with several coats of a hardening agent. They are then left to completely become solid for a day or so. At this stage they get inspected before being painted if more sanding and smoothing is needed. Then they get painted with the selected color. The color is then left to dry before sealing it with the last coat of sealing agent and protector which protects them from water and from fading!
suce: Wow what an amazing and long process! How did you come up with that method? It’s awesome!
Farah: I wanted something unique and new.. something that can adapt to any pieces I imagine to design.. I also wanted to give people the freedom to select their colors. This final method was developed after several failed trials using different materials and mixtures! With my production team we were able to tweak it and change it until we were happy with the final result. The production method evolves every time we come up with a new piece!
suce: That’s so cool! Love the attention to detail. Were you always into materials? When you were young, what did u want to be when you grew up?
Farah: Surprisingly I always wanted to become a dentist! I always loved detailing! And I felt there was a lot of detailing in dentistry. I loved to work using my hands and especially working on tiny items, how I turned into what I am today I have no idea..!
suce: That’s super cute. :)
If you had one tip to give people when decorating their homes, what would it be?
Farah: Never depend on an interior designer 100 percent to design every piece and corner of your house. There is nothing prettier than walking into a house where you can feel the personality of the person living in it. And if you are going to design it fully yourself, good for you, but be sure to be organized and know what you really want and stick to it when you develop your design. Do not get pulled away with all the opinions you hear or see. Don’t get me wrong, give yourself space to develop your design, but let the core idea remain as it is.. or you’ll never actually finish!
suce: So basically love what you love without hesitation? ;)

Remember when we held our annual Design A Dress competition? And Khushboo’s coins dress won first place with its 2,500 coins and intricate detailing?
Well, as promised, Khushboo is now working on her own unique collection exclusively for suce!
First she met with Zayan Ghandour for a one-on-one brainstorming consultation …
And she came back a few weeks later with even more ideas and sketches!
Loving it all!
We can’t wait to launch Khushboo’s first collection for suce! Autumn/Winter 13, here we come!

suce: Mar Mar! We are sooo loving your foray into men’s jewellery! What brought this on?
Mar Mar: Both of my brothers and a few guy friends kept asking when I was going to start designing for the “cooler” gender. lol! I kept putting it off until gifts opened. Once the shop was open it was so easy to design knowing there was a perfect space for boys to come in and pick out pieces for themselves.
suce: What famous person would you looooove to see wearing your designs? Who do you think would rock Mar Mar cufflinks?
Mar Mar: Tom Ford!
suce: What do you think of jewellery for boys in general? Yay or nay?
Mar Mar: Huuuge YAY! In some cases the boys rock the BLING like nobody’s business. Jay-Z, Kanye and Pharrel Williams make you wish you could flaunt insane chains and get away with it.
suce: Have you given any of your cufflinks as gifts so far? If yes, to whom?
Mar Mar: Yes. I was super excited to give a few pieces to friends. My younger brother has the gorilla cuff links, great friend of mine has the lion and a training buddy has the switch blade cufflinks. It suits their personality and I love seeing them wear it.
suce: What’s next for Mar Mar’s men jewellery line?
Mar Mar: Some of the new items that are coming out are dog tags, pinkie rings and bracelets. I am also super excited to be working on a few his/her items that couples can buy and wear together. A couple of guys have told me that girls are always trying to wear matching items with them and whatever is on the market doesn’t reflect what they want to say or their style. I’m hoping the new “couples” pieces make everyone smile.
