Get Lucky!
In 1997, a couple of robots burst onto the scene and changed our lives forever.
No, seriously, they did.
And now, they’re BACK! Pretty much from outer space … with the release of a new album, Random Access Memories after a long hiatus!
And this, make no mistake, has been the best marketed album release in the history of time.. like, EVERRR! Featuring everything from spectacular teasers, to high profile collaborations, videos, more teasers, surprise festival appearances, sequined jackets, golden helmets … and, did we mention teasers??
After a loooong wait, pretty much an eternity really, the album is FINALLY available to stream on itunes, and will be available to buy in the next few days! (YAAAY!!!)
Meanwhile, the fashion and music world go mad.
Indeed, Hedi Slimane, (fashion’s own prince of (chic) darkness), designed Daft Punk’s black-leather biker-dude outfits for 2005’s Human After All, and has created the sequined “Le Smoking” outfits for Random Access Memories!

He has also just shot the duo together with one of the album’s collaborators: Giorgio Moroder (super famous old dude responsible for Donna Summer’s “I feel Love” and Blondie’s “Call Me” among many others) for Dazed & Confused magazine!

The boys have also been shot by celebrated dark & mysterious wunderkind photographer Mathieu Cesar (who unsurprisingly and quite Frenchly never shoots in colour because “the world is far more beautiful in black and white”), for Carine Roitfeld’s CR Fashion Book!

Which really got us thinking… sequins are kinda fabulous… and we suspect there may be a sudden resurgence of this trend for AW13!!
You don’t believe us? Check out the awesomeness of these Ashish pieces in s
uce now…

More streetstyle sequin love…

While we ponder this deep existential question: “Will sequins experience a massive comeback or do robots just wear them better?” we leave you with this super awesome cover of Daft Punk’s first single from Random Access Memories, covered by one ridiculously talented 19 year old by the name of George Barnett.
Enjoy!
(We certainly have.)
Ballgowns for breakfast – PUNK up the volume – in Satwa!
Take 10 gorgeous girls, 10 gorgeous punked up gowns, throw in a Mohawk, a spiked ring and a skull bling necklace for good measure and what do you get?
Well, you get this! Styled by the s
uce girls last Saturday and shot in the alleyways of Satwa by Altamash Urooj!

Here’s what the s
ucy designers had to say about their punked up pieces:
Mar Mar:
“Punk Rock was a huge influence behind this piece. Going back and understanding that bands like the Ramones were really trying to put together innovative and exciting music – I love how it all came together to break the norms and shake up what they felt was so tame. Those thoughts rang in my mind when designing the ring “Bellamy.” I wanted to shake things up in my own right and show that you could mash up “hard” elements like the spikes with beautiful stones. This piece represents breaking the “tame” and taking a chance with an edgier piece.”

MARMAR
Keswah:
“The Keswah drop waist dress is a chic simple ballgown with add-ons inspired by the punk bracelets and hand cuffs which consist of multiple chains and leather studs of different shapes. The dress is sleeveless and can be worn with a biker jacket or jeans jacket to punk it up even more!”

Keswah's dress and denim jacket are modelled by Shirine Aoun

Nadine Kanso – Bil Arabi:
“I always love doing one-off pieces especially if the collaboration is cool! In this case Bil Arabi Punk for s
uce would sure be the coolest.
The skull has the word ‘BLING’ in Arabic in 18kt gold and black Rhodium along with semi precious stars and black diamonds… a totally wicked pendant!”

Bil Arabi
Reema Al Banna – Reemami:
“I took my basic leather knee length dress and puffed it up! I added some lace to exaggerate and enhance the small waist. Made thigh high slits, and covered the openings with a mix of Tulle and jibone to give that feminine yet rock and roll look!”

Reemami's leather dress is modelled by May El Calamawy

House of Fatam:
“We reinvented our simple monochrome tea dress into an exciting & daring two-piece leather ensemble: A short-cropped leather jacket with a feather trim coupled with a big puffy red floor length leather skirt. Too much you say? Did we mention the studs? It’s feminine yet fierce, evoking the true epitome of fashion.”

House of Fatam's dramatic 2 piece is modelled by Aliya Tair

Madiyah Al Sharqi:
‘I took one of the edgier styles from my SS13 collection, a caped jumpsuit, and elongated the cape to ‘Punk It Up’ – what’s even more punk than a ballgown? A jumpsuit! I feel that this piece is not only is head turning but true to my aesthetic’

Madiyah Al Sharqi's jumpsuit is modelled by Aisha Labban

OTT:
“I was deeply inspired by the asthetic-value of punk, I wanted to offer the OTT girl the opportunity to capture the spirit of punk with a piece that balanced love and rebellion”
DCO:
“We wanted to create something shocking for this theme because we feel that shock value was highly sought after in the punk movement. So we added diamonds and studs and slashed a vintage KISS T-shirt and used fake black hair for the bottom part, which we contrasted with elegant black lace.”

DCO and OTT are modelled by Saira Mehar and Shahi Hamad

Badreya Faisal (Bleach):
‘The A-line cut of the signature BLEACH Abaya goes punk with the see-through combination of lace & chiffon and layers of tulle on the mullet hemline. Studs, a wide neckline, a tight strapless orange mini underneath it all PUNK UP the whole look that ties together with the wide black leather belt.’
Joanna Kielkucka : Theme: A mood of looseness
“Prior to coming to Dubai I studied and worked in London so I was immediately drawn to this theme – a formal, pretty, Middle Eastern evening dress given a rebellious, non-conformist punk makeover. Chaos!! Creativity thrives in chaos and of course punk demands that there are ‘no rules’. Hence I’ve added hair extensions, glass and slashed the fabric. Jumeirah meets Camden Town!”
Dima ayad:
“Ballgowns for breakfast” totally reminded me of Carrie Bradshaw in NYC.
This piece was very much inspired by all things girly, all thinks punk, and all things lady. Lace will never go out of style, and whether worn morning noon or night, lace is always a woman’s best bet. Metallics reminds me of punk, rock, and can be girly at the same time. The contrast of gold and black is quite impactful so felt it would be the ideal combo to encapsulate the entire theme!”

Keswah, Joanna Kielkucka and Dima Ayad's pieces are modelled by Lina Sami, Soraya Ghandour and Tarane A.K

Bint thani:
“My inspiration stems from the summer of 1986 during a family holiday in London. The punk movement was well underway in London at that time and it was the first thing that inspired me in terms of style outside of my own culture and environment. One of the key trends that I loved was the mohawk hair, which was so colorful so I decided to dedicate a complete “PUNKED Collection of Turbans”, that’s inspired from the hairstyle of the punks by that time”

Bint Thani turban is modelled by Aya Atoui
Zayan Ghandour for Zayan the Label:
“I took my embroidered Bambi leather jacket from SS13 and spiked it all up, teamed it with an exaggerated waterfall version of my usual tutu skirts to create a total Bambi gone Punk look! As they say, God save the Bambi!”

Zayan the Label's punked up Bambi ensemble is modelled by Narimane Kurdi

The punk-inspired pieces will be on display at s
